Sharing God’s word, the Bible with anyone interested in practical ways to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ every day.

My calling to preach the Good news

The journey of the “DMV Baptist Church” began in 2023 when I felt a profound calling into ministry. This calling was first voiced during a church social gathering by a dear friend, Mrs. Kathy. While sharing a meal with my wife, Mrs. Kathy, and other friends, she suddenly, and with heartfelt emotion, asked me, “Have you thought about becoming a Pastor?” Her words, delivered with such passion and near tears, caught me off guard. My initial response, accompanied by a chuckle, was a straightforward, “No!”

Later, I shared this encounter with my pastor, Steve Grissom. To my surprise, he revealed that he had also been contemplating discussing this very topic with me. After several meaningful conversations with Pastor Steve, I began to pray earnestly about this possibility. As I sought guidance, the Lord started bringing to mind various experiences and situations from the past 24 years. The more I prayed, the clearer the path became.

In the months that followed, I took a leap of faith and applied to a small church, trusting in God’s plan for the journey ahead. As I surrendered to the idea that God could—and has—used people like me in the past, it became increasingly clear that His call for me to preach was genuine and purposeful.

Why the DMV Baptist Church ?

Due to my lack of experience, the interview didn’t go as planned, and the small church decided to move in a different direction. Undeterred, I continued seeking God’s guidance. During this time, Pastor Steve provided me with numerous opportunities to preach at my home church, Grants Creek Baptist Church.

During this period of uncertainty about the direction of my ministry, I remained devoted to serving at Grants Creek Baptist Church as the Outreach Director, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. God continued to strengthen and affirm my calling.

After five months of seeking God’s will for where I would be used in the ministry, I had to renew my commercial driver’s license. I made the appointment and arrived around 6:30 a.m. As time drew closer to 7:00, about 20 or so people were also waiting. Then I heard that still small voice say, “Get out there and preach.”

Since 2023, I have been preaching John 1:1-14 on Monday mornings to those waiting for the DMV to open.

As time went on preaching at the DMV, I was encouraged to start a Facebook page. The purpose of the “DMV Baptist Church” page was, and still is, to encourage other Christians to seek God every day, to hear His direction for creative ways to share what God is doing in their lives with other people.
